School Travel Plan

In 2021 we took part in the Safe and Active Travel Programme, with a view to educate about, and promote safe and healthy ways to travel to school. We are very proud of the bronze award we received last Summer. This is a long-term focus for our school and our School Travel plan sets out some of our future goals. This year, 2023, we are ambitiously working towards the silver accreditation.  Please look out for our posts via the newsletter, Google classroom and website for future events.

Road Safety

Road safety is extremely important and a critical life skill, so at Wellesbourne School we regularly learn about road safety through lessons, assemblies and visits. In addition to this, we are proud members of the Road Safety Club lead by Warwickshire County Council Road Safety Education team. This year we are working towards achieving our first Safe and Active Travel Award.

The aim of The Safe and Active Travel programme is to encourage more children to walk, cycle or scoot to school and give them the skills to do so safely. In doing so it will reduce the number of car trips made to and from school and therefore also improve the air quality around school This will also lead to healthier lifestyles for our children and their families and reduce our carbon footprint on the world.

This year we have taken part in Brake Road Safety Week, learning the road safety code and taking part in road safety missions. We also promoted Warwickshire’s Cars Idling Campaign to encourage everyone to switch off their engines when stationary, particularly when outside schools. The children in our school have learnt how exhaust fumes contain harmful gases which pollute the environment, contribute towards climate change and are linked to many health conditions such as asthma, lung and heart disease. We will also be running a Wellesbourne Walk to School week which will include a Park and Stride, to give all children the opportunity to walk regardless of how far they travel to school.

Thank you for your ongoing support in all the activities we have taken part in this year. For more information on road safety please click on the following links.
